About Me

I cannot recall a time in my life when I wasn’t writing. Journals, diaries, self-assigned book reports. Although my earliest work is buried somewhere in the eaves of my parents’ attic, writing has remained a constant throughout my life.

My memoir, When You Were Mine, grew out of a promise I made to my mother. It tells the story of coming to terms with her spiral into Alzheimer’s while I was raising three young boys of my own. At its heart, though, it is about more than her illness. It is about mothers and children, the stories families tell, and what we hold onto as the people we love change.

My essays have appeared in Cognoscenti, BrainChild, BrainTeen, Entropy, K’In Literary Journal, Herstry, Grown & Flown, and other publications.

In addition to published essays, my writing career includes many technical manuals and years of marketing writing expertise. I also work with writers as an editor, with a particular interest in helping high school students find their own voices in college essays.

I am the founder of MelroseKind, a community initiative centered on kindness, and after nine years leading the organization, I stepped away from its day-to-day management.

I live in Melrose, Massachusetts, with my husband. We have three grown sons. When they visit, I am at my happiest.
